What is Normal Weight Loss?
Trying to lose weight can be a frustrating process. Often people expect their weight loss to be quicker than it is in reality and find this very frustrating! But what is normal weight loss? What should you expect in order to lose weight in a healthy way? Read on to find out more.
Expected Vs. Realistic
Most people expect weight loss to occur like the graph below – nice and steady and consistent. It seems everywhere you look people are posting images of themselves and writing about their huge weight loss on social media, using various diets. This is not always truthful however, and it is important to remember what realistic, HEALTHY weight loss actually looks like.
The second graph shows what we typically expect with weight loss. Many up and downs and plateaus. This is all a part of normal, healthy weight loss and nothing to be fearful of! So if the second graph sounds more like you then try not to worry, because you are perfectly normal.
It is really important to make sure you have a few goals in place that are not so focused on the number of the scales. What are you hoping losing weight will add to your life? More energy? Improve cholesterol levels? Better quality of life? Try to focus on these goals and not take as much notice of the scales!
What have been your experiences with losing weight? How have you managed plateaus? We would love to hear your comments!
