Many surgeries require a pre-surgery diet for preparation and may also require dietary modifications post-surgery. Our dietitians can guide you through both surgery preparation and recovery. Below are a few of the dietary modifications that may be required, however individual advice is required to determine which are applicable to you.
Some surgeries including bariatric surgery, require a pre-surgery very low calorie diet (VLCD). The most common form of VLCD is Optifast™ or Optislim™. It is best to undertake this program under the guidance of a dietitian, to help manage any problems or side effects that may arise. The length of time that each patient has to follow this diet varies according to each individual and will be established by consultation with your Surgeon.
Our dietitians can tailor the pre and post surgery diet therapies to suit you. Every patient is different so it is important to seek personal advice from a dietitian during an individual consultation. Furthermore, every one responds differently to surgery, so our dietitians are here to support you and make sure your individual needs are met and any side effects are managed.
