A completely gluten-free diet is the only successful treatment for people with Coeliac Disease. Learning to follow the gluten-free diet can be very confusing and stressful at first. To make this easier, there are a few basic ‘gluten-free rules’ to keep in mind when food shopping, to help make things easier!
Even if you follow all the guidelines above, it is critical that you also consider risk of cross contamination. This can occur when gluten-free foods accidentally come into contact with gluten-containing foods during food prep and cooking in the kitchen. Eating out of the home at restaurants or the homes of family and friends can also be a significant cross-contamination risk.
Remember all it takes is 1/100th of a slice of regular bread, or essentially a crumb for a reaction to occur.
