Your initial appointment with your dietitian will go for around 1 hour, with subsequent review appointments scheduled for 30 minutes.
What to bring to your appointment:
Firstly your dietitian will have a look through your Patient Registration Form and clarify your reason for visiting, and discuss with you what you are hoping to get out of the appointment.
From there, your dietitian will complete a thorough assessment, which typically covers the following areas.
Your dietitian will then take a dietary history and ask you to run through a typical day of what you usually eat. We will also discuss your fluid intake, any supplements you may be taking, and alcohol intake.
The assessment portion of the appointment is very detailed and allows your dietitian to get a good sense of what is going on.
Following this we will provide you with tailored recommendations to try at home. We like to also provide you with written information relevant to your condition to take home, as we understand it can be a lot to take in all at once. Your dietitian will also teach you about any dietary principles that will be beneficial and ensure you are all set up to make any required dietary changes at home.
We will also discuss appropriate follow up and decide together on a time frame for you to come back and see us for review. Phone reviews can also be conducted in between appointments to touch base.
Your dietitian will provide you with their contact information, and we urge you to contact us any time if you have any questions of concerns in between appointments.

Following this discussion, you will be able to talk to your psychologist about where to go from there, and plans for follow up if required.
